Week 9 – Social Connection (III)

Week 3 of 4

We’re starting March with new goals and a new mindset. I have so much plans for this month, that I personally feel overwhelmed with myself. When this happens, I often notice that I become more introspective than usual and I forget that I’m with people. This is the week I become aware of it and the week I consciously change it.

Introspection is good, but the thoughts can be tiring and too noisy at times. Reminding yourself that you don’t have to beat yourself up with whatever lies you hear up there takes strength and much effort. However, I find that having somebody else to confide with, or just plainly talk to makes the fleeting disruptive thoughts dissipate without you even trying.

Here’s what my 3rd week looked like.

28I met the head of language delivery in my new company for training. It was nice meeting him. apparently, this is the first of 3 trainings I have with him.
1I met one of the Team Leaders of our transcreation teams. She’s a Spanish woman living in UK. She’s very lovely and she can speak French too!
2I had a call with my colleagues again for my training.
3I finally got to meet some of my teammates. We had a great and loooong call.
4I had some free time today so I went to the mall and bought some products I need for my face. Everyone in the mall seemed to be in a great mood. The saleslady in Ellana was lovely, too! I’d buy my new sunscreen there hehe
5My best friend and I had a meeting we’ve booked since last year. We exchanged smiles and quick anecdotes from people in my favourite coffee shop.

Thoughts:

This activity is a lot easier now that I’m required to talk to people for work. It doesn’t feel like work as much. Every time I talk to my teammates, I learn something about them bit by bit, it makes me feel closer to them.

I used to think of these calls as a waste of time. It used to feel like calls can just be emails that could have been read. You do save time by reading a message or an e-mail but a connection with humans, the stories, hearing their voices, and knowing and feeling you have a new friend isn’t something you’d get in an e-mail.

Everyone seems nice every day. I wonder if it’s because I’ve changed my mindset or because people are generally in a good mood. I think it’s the former. Now that’s great news!
