For the last four weeks of the course, we are asked to choose one activity from the rewirements we’ve done in the first 6 weeks. One that we’ll be sticking with for the last 4 weeks of the course.
I chose Social Connection. The reason is I think I’ve stayed so much time indoors, and now, I’m ready to go out and meet new people, and be social again. I’m still in my 20s, but whenever I go out with my friends, I feel like I’ve aged so much since I started working from home. When we go out, I feel agitated and dying to go home. When I am home, I drown in my thoughts again, and not the good kind. I don’t wish to be with people all the time, but it is good to have a community of support and love. We’re never meant to be islands after all.
With that being said, here’s what the first week of four looked like:
| 13 | Stayed over at a friend’s house and we caught up over breakfast |
| 14 | I had a call with my friend from the Netherlands |
| 15 | I met a student from my alma mater while waiting for a document, and I ate dinner with one of my best friends from college |
| 16 | I had a call with a friend, and another friend interviewed me for her final project |
| 17 | I woke up at 3 am to go jogging with my friend by the bay. I say jogging, we jogged for one lap and then that’s it. |
| 18 | I had a meeting with my best friends to organise our itinerary for Thailand |
| 19 | I had a quick banter with Kuya Grab when he delivered our breakfast and he saw our cat fall down the washing machine (hilarious) |
Thoughts:
After the discussion about social connection, it became easier for me to approach people, maybe ask about their day or just anything random. I also started going out without my headphones so people can talk to me easily if they need to.
This week was exhausted from all the events I’ve gone through, but it does make me feel less alone. It makes me happier being reminded that there are people who’d wish to talk to me.
